Part 1: An introduction to natural dyes and fabric preparation. Understanding the crucial role of mordants and pre-treatments so the botanical colors bond permanently to the fibers. Part 2: The Bundle Dye Foulard Students will work on a foulard size (100 x 30 cm). They will use a pre-dyed botanical textile base (immersed in natural color beforehand) and layer it directly with an undyed white fabric. By placing fresh Berlin leaves and flowers between them, they will learn to transfer the color from the pre-dyed base onto the white fabric through advanced bundle/contact printing and steaming. Part 3: The 'Hapa zome' Bandana While the main foulards are steaming for 60 minutes, we keep the creative energy going! Students will use this time to learn the dynamic Zap Technique on a smaller bandana size (50 x 50 cm), experimenting with instant botanical reactions. Part 4: The Reveal & Care Unwrapping the bundles together (the magical final reveal!). Final tips on how to wash and care for naturally dyed garments at home. •What Students Will Take Home & Learn: The Material Projects (3 high-quality pieces total): -One Foulard (100 x 30 cm) in 100% High-Quality Cotton (printed via color-transfer). -One Foulard (100 x 30 cm) in 100% High-Quality Rayon (the original pre-dyed base, beautifully overprinted). -One Bandana (50 x 50 cm) in 100% High-Quality Rayon (created during the Zap Technique session). -The Alchemy Knowledge: A solid understanding of natural mordanting and textile pre-treatments to replicate the process at home. -The Spirit of the Everyday Local Flora: A deep appreciation for the plants, colors, and biodiversity available in our immediate, everyday surroundings—specifically focusing on the summer ecosystem of Berlin. Students will learn to see the city's urban nature as a vibrant color palette.
